National Cable Car Day!

San Francisco Cable Car Seasons is happy to celebrate a day that’s near and dear to our hearts, National Cable Car Day. Our proud tradition dates back to 1873 when the first cable-powered street railway was built and put into use. Officially, San Francisco is the only city in the world that still operates traditional cable cars. While you can still find cable cars throughout the world that run on electric cables, San Francisco’s cars still utilize the original technology of moving cables to haul the cars. For those of you who’ve never had the pleasure of taking in the city sights from the inside of one of these bumpy, yet incredibly fun, vehicles of transportation, we encourage you to take a ride when you visit San Francisco. And don’t forget to stop by our store for a beautiful keepsake of the city.

American Teddy Bear Day

Billboard named "Teddy Bear" does not exist In November 1902, President Theodore Roosevelt and some of his friends went on a hunting trip. After hours of searching, the group had not come across any wild animals. Finally, the group did track down and surrounded a helpless bear. One of the guides asked the president to shoot the bear so he could win a hunting trophy. The president refused, and news reporters throughout the country spread the story of Roosevelt’s kind act.

Not long after this took place, a famous cartoonist named Clifford Berryman drew a cartoon based on Roosevelt’s rescue of the bear. When a store owner in Brooklyn saw the cartoon, he decided to make toy bears to sell in his shop. He asked President Roosevelt for permission to use the name “Teddy’s Bear” as a reminder of the bear Roosevelt had set free. Nowadays, everyone knows these toys as Teddy Bears, but few people know that they were named after President Theodore “Teddy” Roosevelt.  Find your favorite teddy bear here

World Animal Day – October 4

Billboard named "World Animal Day" does not exist World Animal Day is celebrated each year on October 4th. Started in Florence, Italy at a convention of ecologists, it has expanded to include animal life in all forms all over the globe. The 4th of October was originally chosen for World Animal Day because it is the feast day of St. Francis of Assisi, a nature lover and patron saint of animals. Many churches around the world observe the Sunday closest to October 4th with a Blessing for the Animals. However, World Animal Day has now gone beyond being the celebration of a saint and is today observed by animal-lovers of all beliefs, nationalities and backgrounds. Animal blessings are held in churches, synagogues, and by animal chaplains in parks and fields. Animal rescue shelters holds fundraising events and open days, wildlife groups organize information displays, schools undertake animal-related project work and individuals donate to animal charities or pledge to sponsor a shelter animal. Celebrate all our animal friends with a memento from one of our extensive collections.  http://www.seasonssf.com/shop/index.php?search=animal

July 7 – Chocolate Day!

Chocolate — it’s one of the most popular sweets of all time. But why do we love it so much?  Maybe it’s because it tastes so good. Maybe it’s because it makes you feel happy.  Maybe it’s because there are so many different types. Oh, who really cares why — we just love it!  July 7 is Chocolate Day, and we’re celebrating with some gifts and decorations that will remind you why you love chocolate.

According to the National Confectioners Association chocolate is America’s favorite flavor for 52% of adult Americans. And 65% of them prefer milk chocolate. Chocolate was created in Switzerland in 1876 and we are forever grateful.

Celebrate the Magic of the Fairy World

Ne'Qwa Art Fairy Moon

It’s International Fairy Day! Today is a day for fairy believers young and old to celebrate the stories, magic, and history of the Fair Folk. For centuries, fairies have been an important part of Celtic culture. In all of the ancient legends, these mythological creatures are described as intelligent, mischievous, and magical. They have the ability to fly and cast spells, and they live in the land of eternal youth. Mortals don’t often see fairies because of the division between the two worlds, but sightings can occur at twilight or during Beltane, Mid-Summer’s Eve, or All Hallow’s Eve.

In his 1904 play Peter Pan, J.M. Barrie wrote that when the first baby laughed, the laugh broke into a thousand pieces, and that was the beginning of fairies. International Fairy Day is the perfect opportunity to relive your childhood fantasies and celebrate the joy and magic of the fairy world. Share your world with one of our magical Fairies!
