American Teddy Bear Day
| Billboard named "Teddy Bear" does not exist | In November 1902, President Theodore Roosevelt and some of his friends went on a hunting trip. After hours of searching, the group had not come across any wild animals. Finally, the group did track down and surrounded a helpless bear. One of the guides asked the president to shoot the bear so he could win a hunting trophy. The president refused, and news reporters throughout the country spread the story of Roosevelt’s kind act.
Not long after this took place, a famous cartoonist named Clifford Berryman drew a cartoon based on Roosevelt’s rescue of the bear. When a store owner in Brooklyn saw the cartoon, he decided to make toy bears to sell in his shop. He asked President Roosevelt for permission to use the name “Teddy’s Bear” as a reminder of the bear Roosevelt had set free. Nowadays, everyone knows these toys as Teddy Bears, but few people know that they were named after President Theodore “Teddy” Roosevelt. Find your favorite teddy bear here |

World Animal Day – October 4
| Billboard named "World Animal Day" does not exist | World Animal Day is celebrated each year on October 4th. Started in Florence, Italy at a convention of ecologists, it has expanded to include animal life in all forms all over the globe. The 4th of October was originally chosen for World Animal Day because it is the feast day of St. Francis of Assisi, a nature lover and patron saint of animals. Many churches around the world observe the Sunday closest to October 4th with a Blessing for the Animals. However, World Animal Day has now gone beyond being the celebration of a saint and is today observed by animal-lovers of all beliefs, nationalities and backgrounds. Animal blessings are held in churches, synagogues, and by animal chaplains in parks and fields. Animal rescue shelters holds fundraising events and open days, wildlife groups organize information displays, schools undertake animal-related project work and individuals donate to animal charities or pledge to sponsor a shelter animal. Celebrate all our animal friends with a memento from one of our extensive collections. http://www.seasonssf.com/shop/index.php?search=animal |

It’s National S’mores Day!
It’s National S’mores Day … a delicious treat made from three simple ingredients – graham crackers, toasted marshmallows, and melted chocolate bars. Yum!
The first official S’mores recipe was published in the Girl Scout Handbook in 1927 by Loretta Scott Crew. Her award-winning recipe was entitled “Some Mores.” Over the years, the recipe was passed from camper to camper and eventually became the famous fireside dessert. Wonder why it’s called a S’more? Because you’ll always want “some more!”
So get yourself some graham crackers, marshmallows and a chocolate bar and build a S’more. No bonfire? No problem! You can toast marshmallows in a toaster oven, an oven or a microwave.
And check out our cool S’mores gifts and decorations. We especially like “Peace, Love and S’mores” and we’re sure you’ll love it too!
